Hidden Keyboard Shortcuts in Lightroom Classic
June 7, 2024
Here are a few keyboard shortcuts for Lightroom Classic that are not well-known to most users but can be incredibly helpful in speeding up your editing!
Hold Command While Using Generative AI Remove
Generative AI remove is an incredible tool that allows users to remove unwanted objects. When a user selects what they want removed, they are presented with a mask refinement panel. This panel is useful when you want to add or subtract from the area you've selected for removal but it requires the extra step of clicking Apply. You can avoid that step by holding the command key while selecting what you want to remove in Lightroom Classic.
Enable and Disable Auto Mask When Using the Brush Tool
Auto mask can be helpful when using the brush tool to mask tricky situations. Users can enable and disable auto mask by pressing A with the brush tool open.
Hold Shift While Double Clicking on a Slider's Name
Have you ever wanted to get the auto-exposure value of an image? It's actually pretty simple. Just hold the shift key and double-click Exposure next to the exposure slider. This works on the following sliders to get Lightroom Classic's auto value: Temperature, Tint, Exposure, Contrast, Highlights, Shadows, Whites, Blacks, Vibrance, and Saturation. I personally find it most useful for exposure.
Command with the Crop Tool Open to Straighten
Using your eye to straighten works many times but for difficult situations, straightening to a horizon line or a building can be simplified by pressing the command key with the crop tool open. This reveals the line tool that allows users to draw a line and Lightroom Classic will automatically straighten the image to that line.
Bonus Tip: Use Power Keys to Auto Straighten Images with a Keyboard Shortcut
Unfortunately, Lightroom Classic does not have a native keyboard shortcut to auto-straighten images. Users must click the Auto button above the Angle Slider with the crop tool open. With Power Keys users can assign a keyboard shortcut to auto-straighten and with a simple keyboard shortcut users can now trigger Lightroom Classic's auto-straighten functionality - no more clicking around.
